THE MONKEY MOUNTAIN (AFFENBERG PARK)

<<Summer tour to the Bodensee << Back

Park "The Monkeys Mountain" Affenberg Park

But our trip was not exactly to the city of Meersburg, our next destination was Salem, to a very special tourist site, known as The Monkey Mountain. A very fun theme park, much more if you have the company of little ones who will enjoy as beautiful a place as any other.

We really did not have many expectations about the place, we did not know exactly what to expect, our surprise was that the parking lot was completely full, something that one would think is very common on a summer weekend at the lake, so despite If we call attention to the number of parked cars we interpret it as normal.

Finally we found a place where to leave the car, the place cannot be seen at the beginning as a mountain as such, the initial impression was that it was a fairly large farm, as taken from a painting of the prairies of southern Germany, but this suitable for visitors, a couple of old houses of traditional architecture, wooden columns and windows with vines that cover a large part of the walls and roofs of buildings, bird nests raised by the park that with their songs welcome their visitors, in fact, had a fairly large cage where with lots of copies of these birds in captivity.

In what was the main stable of the farm in his garden a classic German Bier Garten, long benches and shared with the traditional German dishes, many potatoes in different presentations, sausages, katzespetze and moultasche, without missing the well-frozen beer in glasses of half a liter .. Next to the BierGarten area also a park with games for children, so the place is highly recommended for families.

Affenberg Park - Salem
The park begins with an artificial lagoon for ducks of around 300 meters in diameter, and next to it the small hill fenced shelter for the species of the park. Before opening the door the staff gives the basic safety instructions of the park, and then lets in groups of around 30 people. At that moment the fun begins.

Already inside the park shelter, part of the team offers all visitors lots of popcorn, which are to be able to captivate the monkeys and interact with them, we did not have to wait long and next to the entrance the crowd was already fascinated with a pair of monkeys welcoming people and adults happily queuing to feed them.

But the surprise was when we realized that this was only the beginning, and that is that the name of The Mountain of the monkeys is not in vain! The place is a single road that crosses the circumference of the land limiting access to the center by wood railings, but this is occupied during the full 500 meters that measures the route by the monkeys that inhabit the refuge, one sitting a few meters from it another, those who very expectantly expect some of the visitors to come to feed them, and many others inside the inner forest jumping from tree to tree playing among them. So one tip is not to end the popcorn in the first meters of the route, you will have much more monkeys to feed along the walk.

At the end of the tour there is an area where the park team takes time to give a little talk about the species that inhabit the park, its behavior, characteristics and peculiarities of the breed.

It was a very pleasant experience, very suitable for a family trip. The duration is approximately one hour and the cost of admission is again euros for an adult and half for children over six years.

Bodman Town

At the end of the tour we were ready for our next stop. For being summer our guide recommended us a slightly less popular place, offered us a little more private space to take a small walk to the shore of the beach, and to enjoy a small swim in the lake without being in the middle of large crowds The place chosen was the small town of Bodman, which in fact was decisive in history to name him as Bodensee.

As our guide explained to us, the place is a bit more reserved, only a couple of restaurants and a very nice green area by the lake. It was time to rest and throw ourselves in the grass under a tree while some of the group enjoyed a snack and others a bath in the lake. Finally the day is over and very satisfied we await the next surprises of the next day.
