Visit the city of Meersburg from the city of Konstanz on the Bodensee

What to do in a day trip to Bodensee, Tour from Konstance to Meersburg

We packed our backpack, a bottle of water, a couple of snacks, and with a bus ticket in hand, we once again went to explore the sea of Baden Wurrtemberg, the beautiful bodensee and the city of Constancia, a destination that is not new for this Blog. But this time the mission was to get to know another of the towns on the lake shore, a magical and beautiful place, the city of Meersburg.

But for those who have not visited our blog or seen any of our videos about the Bodensee, I tell you that it is known as the South German Sea, it is the largest inland lake in all of Germany, with an extension of more than 500 square kilometers, this lake is fed by the melting of glaciers in the Alps, in summer you can see the background.
The lake is shared by three countries, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, and within the German zone it is shared by the State of Baden Wurttemberg and Bavaria.
And well, the lake is also known as Lake Constance since this city is one of the oldest and most important on the shores of the Lake and it has a special characteristic that it is a city shared with Switzerland, a small part of the city it already belongs to that country, and the other major part is within Germany in the state of Baden Wurttemberg.

This lake could be considered as one of the main tourist attractions or destinations in southern Germany, so its settlements or cities in its surroundings have considerable tourist traffic all year round, and in the same way within its surroundings. You will find many parks, museums, services and tourist activities for all tastes and logically hotels, bars and restaurants. Talking about the lake, its different places, cities, history would take us hours or whole days! It is a place about which there is much to tell.

The weather in Germany and especially in this southern part of Germany is very changeable, you can enjoy a sunny day then in a few hours change to rainy or cloudy. so keep in mind to check the weather forecast throughout the day.

To travel by bus, the journey takes around two to three hours depending on the route you take. The company Flixbus has buses almost every hour there and back, so you can take the bus early in the morning and return to the city from Stuttgart in the afternoon. The bus stop is one block from one of the entrances to the City Center of Constanza. The walk in the center of Constanza is always a very good experience, its old but well-preserved architecture houses countless shops, boutiques, bars , restaurants, the very touristy and also very youthful atmosphere, it is worth mentioning that the city of Constanza is a university city, so a large part of its population are students, its cobbled alleys lead us directly to the lake port, which is where take the ferries to visit other destinations.

In the port, the impressive sculpture of the courtesan on the shore of the port quay stands out. Turning looking at the whole panorama is an imposing sculpture that characterizes the city of Constanta, with the pope in one hand and the king in the other, it refers to stages in the city in ancient times when it was a diplomatic seat of great importance, but that These are historical data that we will not go into detail this time, since this time the mission was to take one of the boats to visit another city on the other side of the lake.

From the city of Konstanz, tourist boats leave about every 15 minutes that make different routes to other towns, you find trains that run tours and return to the same point, there are also boats that take you to the city of Fridrichhafen and also to the city of Meersburg , our destination this time.

You can buy the tickets in the sales room that is located on the corner in front of the pier. The round trip ticket is priced at 13 euros per person, it has different schedules but you can leave from 11 in the morning to take the return ship at 3 in the afternoon, although the schedules to Meersburg are practically every hour and the last one is until 6 in the afternoon.

The boats are very elegant yachts, with a capacity of around 500 people, with three floors, with different terraces, inside an elegant bar and restaurants, where their tables extend along their terraces, in the same way platforms to go sitting appreciating the views of the coast, the island of Manau and enjoying the fresh air and the birds that fly accompanying the boats.

The journey from Constance to Meersburg takes half an hour, and finally you can see the city in the background, its boardwalk and its castle along with its palace at the top.

The city of Meersburg is one of the most visited in all of Lake Constance thanks to its evident beauty, with a population of around six thousand inhabitants in 12 square kilometers, in an architectural infrastructure of medieval character and elevated surface making it also very good views. Its economic activity is mainly tourism but also wine culture since it is quickly evident that it is located among vineyards on its slopes with a large number of wineries and taverns to taste good German wine.

The city is named for the first time around the year 988 and from 1210 to 1803 it belonged to the bishopric of Constance, being largely occupied by fishermen.

One of its main attractions is its old castle dating from the 7th century, located on top of the hill at 440 meters, it is characterized by being one of the castles that are still inhabited and preserved in its original period, and is now open to the public to know it as a museum.
Next to it and a garden terrace is the new palace dating from the 13th century, residence of the bishop and now housing a museum. Its historic center is extremely pleasant, with its old houses with old wooden structures, which go from its boardwalk even going up in small alleys around the castle and a small central square. As we mentioned, tourism is its main activity, so practically all the houses or buildings are dedicated to the sale of tourist services and products, bars, restaurants, cafes, ice cream makers, souvenir shops, a town that makes you feel like you are in a Montage for an old movie, a medieval village, like a little trip to the past, an image of dreams, very romantic and elegant, with a photograph that anyone will fall in love with.

Lake Constance is a place where you will always find something to do, it is a place where you can spend whole weeks, it is even very popular for cycling with different camping areas in its surroundings.
