Mediterranean paradise in TurkeyThe Bay of Fethiye
In our visit to the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey we stayed very close to the port city of Fethye, doing a little research we collected basic information about this place. The port city is part of the Mugla province, it is built under the ancient city of Telmesos, so its archaeological wealth is part of its main attractions, the city was part of the Persian Empire during 500 BC during its Long history suffered stages of abandonment by wars, years of prosperity and independence and of much development for its commercial characteristic in the 12th and 13th centuries, it was part of the Oto-Roman Empire and with a great cultural exchange with Greece, at the beginning of the last century It was named after Fethiye in honor of the first war pilot, the city suffered from earthquakes and reconstruction in the middle of the last century.
Currently in its urban area has an approximate population of 84 thousand inhabitants in about 66 square kilometers, its main activity is tourism with a variety of small museums with archaeological pieces, the climate is quite warm during the summer reaching temperatures between 35 to 40 degrees, and during the winter between 25 to 5 degrees. The nearest airport is in Dalaman, about an hour away. And the public transport to its surroundings is quite acceptable for the users. The place is basically a tourist destination very visited by Russians, English and Germans, so their facilities are very well suited to these markets. Our visit was only a couple of days, we stayed at the Tuana Club, 30 minutes from the city center, public transport offered us trips every 10 minutes until midnight.
The town center is very peculiar adapted to its topography, with a great variety of mountains that decorate the landscape forcing to be a long urban settlement around the bay but a few blocks away from the sea, at its end a great variety of mountains with trails and pine forests, very suitable for lovers of hiking or mountain bike. That is why access to the sea is quite easy, and its boardwalk is very long, with gardens, kiosks, restaurants and public green areas, a park for children and a street for bicycles. Undoubtedly the use of the bicycle to explore the place is definitely the best option. On the tour of its tourist boardwalk visitors can find a variety of boat tours, both public and private.
